Viraen is an associate in the Singapore office. He has experience in a variety of international arbitrations involving a wide range of sectors and applicable laws, including shareholder disputes, infrastructure, power, and oil and gas, as well as construction and engineering disputes. Viraen has acted as counsel in arbitrations under the rules of major arbitral institutions. He also has litigation experience in the English Courts.

Before joining Three Crowns, Viraen was an associate in the dispute resolution group of a leading U.S. law firm in London, where he represented high-profile clients in international arbitrations as well as commercial litigations.

Viraen received his Bachelor of Arts (Law) with First Class Honours and Master of Arts from Gonville & Caius College, University of Cambridge in 2016 and 2021 respectively. He was awarded the Sir William McNair Prize for being his college’s top performing undergraduate, the W.M. Tapp Postgraduate Scholarship and Gonville & Caius Book Prize. He has also won several mooting competitions both internationally and within the UK.

  • Acting for a telecoms company in an ICC arbitration regarding a shareholder dispute in the Middle East under contracts governed by English law. Successfully obtained an award for US$1.65 billion for client, as reported by Reuters and in the GAR

  • Acting for a consortium of European construction companies on one of the world’s largest infrastructure projects located in Central America, in a long-running series of related ICC arbitrations against the employer, worth in excess of US$2.5 billion

  • Acting for an international oil & gas company in a multi-billion dollar arbitration relating to delay, disruption and pricing disputes in respect of the construction of an LNG processing facility

  • Acting for a leading Taiwanese technology company in an ICC arbitration governed by Singapore law relating to a claim for indemnity for the breach of third-party intellectual property rights

  • Acting for a New York Stock Exchange-listed hardware manufacturer in connection with arbitration proceedings against another technology company before a Singapore Tribunal relating to the termination of a multi-billion dollar acquisition deal
