Trey Childress appointed as Adviser to American Law Institute’s Restatement of the Law Fourth, The Foreign Relations Law of the United States

Trey Childress has been appointed as an Adviser to the American Law Institute’s (ALI) Restatement of the Law Fourth, The Foreign Relations Law of the United States. This Restatement will address selected topics on treaties, jurisdiction, and sovereign immunity. By participating in this project, Advisers have the opportunity to work with other eminent lawyers, judges, and academics to influence the development of the law.

Trey is an elected member of the American Law Institute. Prior to joining Three Crowns, he served for three years as the 28th Counsellor on International Law to the Legal Adviser at the U.S. State Department, which involved advising on the formulation of the government’s international arbitration and litigation strategy. During that time, Trey served as counsel and presented arguments before the International Court of Justice.

The ALI is the leading independent organization in the United States producing work to clarify, modernize, and improve the law. The ALI drafts, revises, and publishes Restatements of the Law, Model Codes, and Principles of Law that are enormously influential in courts, tribunals, and legislatures, as well as in legal scholarship.

ABOUT TREY CHILDRESS

Trey is Of Counsel based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. His practice focuses on international arbitration and litigation, public international law, and private international law (conflict of laws). Trey has briefed and argued cases as counsel before the International Court of Justice and courts throughout the United States, including the United States Supreme Court. He has also consulted as an expert on various matters before international arbitral tribunals and courts outside of the United States.Trey is a tenured professor of law at the Pepperdine University Caruso School of Law, where his scholarship and teaching focuses on international arbitration and litigation.
