Three Crowns team to speak at 10th ITA-IEL-ICC Joint Conference on International Energy Arbitration

Events 10th January 2022

Carmen Martinez Lopez will be speaking on the “Around the World in Renewables” panel at the 10th ITA-IEL-ICC Joint Conference on International Energy Arbitration, hosted by the Institute for Transnational Arbitration, the Institute for Energy Law, the Center for American and International Law, and the ICC International Court of Arbitration.

The panellists will survey current and brewing disputes across different jurisdictions, including Spain, which in 2021 saw the 50th treaty claim from renewable energy investors, and Mexico, which is undergoing significant legal and regulatory changes in the energy sector. They will also discuss the direction future renewables disputes may take, exploring trends and developments in the renewables sector.

Constantine Partasides QC will pay tribute to Professor J. Martin Hunter, a specialist in international arbitration since 1967, who served as adviser, advocate, and arbitrator on several hundreds of cases, co-authored Redfern and Hunter on International Arbitration with his law partner and great friend Alan Redfern, and was a great mentor to generations of young lawyers all over the world.

This year’s conference, which takes place virtually on Thursday 20 and Friday 21 January, considers the various sources of change and their impact on commercial and investment disputes, addressing key factors driving this change around the world, including the pandemic, energy transition, and geopolitics.
