Penny Martin to speak at a CIArb/ILA event on “International Courts and Tribunals: Who Decides on the Decision-Makers in International Law?”

Penny Martin will speak at an event on “International Courts and Tribunals: Who Decides on the Decision-Makers in International Law?” jointly organised by CIArb Singapore and the Singapore branch of the International Law Association (SG-ILA).

Penny will provide an overview of international judicial selection procedures, with a focus on those of the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, based on the findings of her co-authored book “Selecting International Judges: Principle, Process, and Politics,” which will be followed by a panel discussion on practical insights from the selection processes in different international courts and tribunals and international arbitration and the interplay of political, pragmatic and strategic considerations.

The event will conclude with a networking drinks reception, hosted by Three Crowns. The event will be moderated by Charis Tan (Peter & Kim) and Penny will be joined on the panel by Rodman Bundy (Squire Patton Boggs) and Derek Loh (Deputy Director-General (Economic) at the International Affairs Division of the Attorney-General’s Chambers).

The event will take place on Tuesday 5 March 2024 at Three Crowns in Singapore.

ABOUT PENNY MARTIN

Penny, counsel in the Singapore office, has more than a decade of experience in international commercial arbitration, public international law, and international human rights law. Her primary focus has been on energy-related disputes, including disputes relating to long-term oil and gas agreements (including environmental, abandonment and decommissioning, and cost recovery issues), renewable energy, gas pricing, licensing, and intellectual property.

Penny was named a “Rising Star” in International Arbitration in The Legal 500 UK having been previously recognised as “Highly Regarded”. She received her BA/LLB (Hons) from Monash University and LLM in Public International Law (with Distinction) from the University of Glasgow. Penny is admitted to practice in England and Wales and Victoria, Australia.
