Nicola Peart to speak at the 2023 ASIL Annual Meeting

Publications 28th March 2023

Nicola Peart will speak on the “The Reach and Limits of International Courts and Tribunals in Resolving the Climate Crisis” panel at the 2023 American Society of International Law (ASIL) Annual Meeting.

The theme of this year’s meeting, “The Reach and Limits of International Law to Solve Today’s Challenges”, addresses the current challenges facing international law as participants, members of the international law community, strive to reinforce and strengthen the importance of the practice.

The panel will explore the extent to which international courts and tribunals can play a role in enhancing and promoting climate justice through the lens of three recent initiatives to seek advisory opinions on climate change from the International Court of Justice, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.

The event will be held, in person, from Wednesday 29 March to Saturday 1 April in Washington, DC with Nicola’s panel taking place from 9:00 am to 10:00 am ET on Friday 31 March.
