Following the webinar, “The Future of East African Energy and Infrastructure Disputes”, hosted by Three Crowns LLP and the Africa Energy Arbitrators’ Forum (AEA) of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce International Arbitration Centre (LACIAC), Law.com International journalist Jennigay Coetzer has written a piece on the key themes explored in the webinar. The speakers at the event included Constantine Partasides QC, Kathryn Khamsi, and Hamid Abdulkareem.
The article, “Partners Forecast Spike in East Africa Energy Litigation and Arbitration”, looks at the potential triggers for disputes discussed on the webinar, such as the deployment of renewable energy, decommissioning obligations, and the introduction of new regulatory frameworks to deal with the energy transition. It also addresses carbon credits and how these present both an economic opportunity for Africa and fertile ground for disputes.
