Carmen Martinez Lopez and Agustin G. Sanz to speak at GoArb Lima 2024

Carmen Martinez Lopez and Agustin G. Sanz will speak at GoArb Lima 2024 “Landing on Your First International Arbitrations”, organized by IASC – International Arbitration Seminars & Courses in collaboration with Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.

Carmen will deliver a lecture on the subject of “Hearing Preparation” on Tuesday 3 September from 6:15pm to 7:30pm.

Agustin will participate in a roundtable discussion co-organized with Lima VYAP on “How to Pilot a Career in International Arbitration: A Conversation between Arbitration Practitioners”, taking place on Wednesday 4 September from 5:15pm to 7:00pm.

In this session, Agustin will share his perspective on the different career paths that arbitration can offer, alongside fellow panellists Cecilia O’Neil (O’Neil Arbitration), Ignacio Minorini (Bruchou Funes), and Mariá Inés Corrá (Bomchil). The panel will be moderated by Jorge Lopéz Fung (Squire Patton Boggs).

GoArb Lima is an intensive four-day course aimed at providing students and young practitioners with the fundamental skills needed for the practice of international arbitration.

The course will be held in person from 2-4 September 2024 in Lima, Peru.

ABOUT CARMEN MARTINEZ LOPEZ

Carmen, a partner in the Madrid office, has appeared as advocate in numerous investment treaty and commercial arbitrations. She has handled arbitrations under the rules of the major arbitral institutions and ad hoc across a variety of jurisdictions, with a particular focus on Latin America and Spain. Carmen also sits as arbitrator.

Carmen serves in a variety of leadership positions, including as the President of the British Chapter of the Spanish Arbitration Club (Club Español del Arbitraje), a member of the Arbitrator Appointment Committee of the Madrid Arbitration Court, and a team leader for the IBA Task Force for the Revision of the 2010 IBA Rules on the Taking of Evidence. Carmen writes and speaks regularly on arbitration-related issues.

Agustin is a partner in the Madrid office. He has been trained in the civil law and common law traditions and has extensive experience of both international commercial and investment treaty arbitrations under the rules of the major arbitral institutions and ad hoc across a variety of jurisdictions, with a particular focus on Latin America, covering a broad range of sectors including infrastructure, energy, oil & gas, public contracts, and regulated industries. Agustin also has extensive experience advising international clients in connection with local administrative and court proceedings, settlement negotiations and contract renegotiations in the context of major disputes in Latin America.
