Tom Villalon to speak on a panel at the Atlanta International Arbitration Society’s 13th Annual Conference

Tom Villalon will speak on a panel titled “The Importance of Written Advocacy in International Arbitration” at the Atlanta International Arbitration Society’s 13th Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

The panel will provide practical instruction on effective written advocacy in international arbitration proceedings. The panel will also cover topics including the nuts-and-bolts of legal writing, the different submission types in arbitration proceedings, writing for a multicultural audience, and the differences between writing for a court and writing for an arbitral tribunal.

Tom will speak alongside Abbey Hawthorne (ICC), Carson Bennett (King & Spalding LLP) and Angélica María Perdomo Luna (Zulegal). The panel will be moderated by Wheaton Webb (Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP).

The panel will take place on Monday, 7 October 2024 from 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm ET at McGuireWoods LLP, Atlanta.

ABOUT TOM VILLALON

Tom is an associate in the Washington, DC office. He has significant experience representing clients in a wide range of international arbitrations under most major institutional rules, with a particular focus on disputes across Asia and Latin America. Tom has represented and advised clients from an array of industries, including construction, mining & metals, post-M&A, biotech, and pharmaceuticals.

Tom holds a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Hawaii School of Law, and a B.A with Honors from Dartmouth College. While in law school, he won first-place individual oralist for the global International Environmental Law Moot Court competition. He is the host of The China Arbitrator, a Mandarin language arbitration podcast dedicated to understanding Asian views of the practice of international arbitration. He is also the co-founder of Rescue Afghan Women Now, an organization dedicated to rescuing high-risk Afghan women from Taliban capture and execution.
