Agustin G. Sanz and Macarena Bahamonde delivered training course on “Investment Arbitration and ICSID: perspectives after the recent ratification of Ecuador”

Agustin G. Sanz and Macarena Bahamonde recently delivered a virtual training course on ICSID arbitration as part of a series on “Investment Arbitration and ICSID: perspectives after the recent ratification of Ecuador”, hosted by the Ecuadorian Arbitration Institute. In their session on Wednesday 4 October, Agustin and Macarena focused on specific aspects of ICSID arbitration including applicable law, transparency, non-disputing parties, exhaustion of local remedies, and claims manifestly without legal merit.

ABOUT AGUSTIN G. SANZ

Agustin is a Special Legal Consultant in the Washington, DC office. He has extensive experience of both international commercial and investment treaty arbitrations involving disputes in a broad range of sectors, including infrastructure and highway concession agreements, oil and gas, energy and power grids, water treatment, technology, public works, sovereign debt, and agribusiness. He also advises sovereigns and international organisations in matters of public international law.

Agustin also has extensive experience advising international clients in connection with local administrative and court proceedings in Latin America, as well as contract renegotiation, settlement, and post-award agreements arising from investment and commercial disputes.

ABOUT MACARENA BAHAMONDE

Macarena is an associate in the Madrid office. She specialises in commercial and investment arbitration under a variety of arbitration rules in a range of sectors including energy and natural resources, pharmaceuticals, and construction.

Macarena is a co-founder of Ecuadorian Very Young Arbitration Practitioners (ECUVYAP) and she coaches the arbitration moot team of University of San Francisco of Quito. Macarena was elected as the Ecuadorian Arbitration Institute Young Members’ Representative and is an Arbitrator Intelligence Ambassador for Latin America. She speaks Spanish, English, and French.
