Publications 22nd February 2023

Kathryn Khamsi will co-chair the inaugural ITA Conference on International Arbitration in the Mining Sector in Toronto, hosted by the Institute for Transnational Arbitration (ITA). The conference will gather global experts in the field, including mining company executives, in-house counsel, arbitrators and arbitration practitioners, to discuss the key issues that arise in mining sector arbitrations.

Liz Snodgrass will speak on a panel on ““Political Risk” Vs. Regulatory Flexibility: Key Contractual Clauses (E.G. Stabilization Clauses) and Other Protections (Including Investment Treaties)” on Thursday 9 March from 9:15 to 10:30 am ET.

Kathryn will also moderate a panel on “Environmental Issues in Mining Arbitration: Standards, Claims and Advocacy” on Thursday 9 March from 3:10 to 4:25 pm ET. The panellists will consider the impacts of tightening environmental protocols on the evolution of arbitration standards and the allegations to which they give rise, as well as how advocacy must evolve to remain effective.

The conference will take place on Wednesday 8 March at Arbitration Place Toronto and Thursday 9 March at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
