Who’s Who Legal has recognised 21 Three Crowns lawyers in Who’s Who Legal 2023: Arbitration. The nominees, from four jurisdictions, are considered leaders in the international arbitration field.
GLOBAL LEADERS
London-based partners Constantine Partasides KC, Gaëtan Verhoosel KC, Carmen Martinez Lopez, and Reza Mohtashami KC have been recognised again this year for arbitration. Sources stated that Constantine is “one of the best and brightest of his generation” and Gaëtan was described as “a superb practitioner” and “exceptionally capable”. Peers noted that Carmen “is a very persuasive and coherent advocate” and Reza is “a top tier practitioner”.
All four partners in Paris were recognised with the guide noting that Georgios Petrochilos KC “possesses an extreme commitment and far-sighted approach to advocacy and strategy” and highlighting Todd Wetmore as “a very talented and well-respected lawyer”. Kathryn Khamsi was described as “an outstanding practitioner who is hugely knowledgeable” and Shaparak Saleh as “a leader in her field and a go-to person for large and complex disputes”.
For Washington, DC, all three partners were recognised with the market describing Luke Sobota as “a fantastic lawyer with excellent client relationship skills, Liz Snodgrass as “a wise and hugely knowledgeable lawyer with excellent written advocacy skills”, and Scott Vesel as “a thoughtful and well-regarded practitioner”. Counsel Simon Consedine was also ranked with peers noting “he is confident and sharp”.
Daryl Chew, a partner in the Singapore office, was highlighted as “one of the ‘chosen few’ of his generation who will lead the Singapore arbitration community in the future”.
FUTURE LEADERS
London-based partners Manish Aggarwal and Leilah Bruton were recognised as future leaders in the partners category. The market highlighted that Manish “is a brilliant mind” and “is conscientious and thorough” and that Leilah “has excellent organisational and leadership skills” and “her witness statements and submissions are first-rate”.
Counsel Hamid Abdulkareem of the London office, Ilija Mitrev Penushliski of the Paris office, and Agustin G. Sanz of the Washington, DC office were ranked as future leaders. The guide emphasised that Hamid is “a star advocate” with “considerable expertise in oil and gas disputes”. Commentators referred to Ilija’s “unwavering commitment to the client’s cause” and that he is “a great leader”, and highlighted Agustin’s “admirable understanding of local law in different Latin American jurisdictions”.
The firm’s Chief Executive Officer and General Counsel, Hugh Carlson, was described as “a great strategist” with a “deep understanding of international disputes”.
Senior associates Farouk El-Hosseny and Nicola Peart, based in the London and Washington, DC offices respectively, were both ranked. Sources emphasised that Farouk is “one of the strongest arbitration intellectuals in the London market” and recognised Nicola as “extremely smart, and her knowledge of climate arbitration is impressive”.
