Penny Martin featured in the Legal Business Disputes Yearbook 2021

News 13th May 2021

Penny Martin, counsel in the London office, was recently featured in the Legal Business Disputes Yearbook 2021 in a section titled “Written in the Stars: The Up-and-Coming Generation on the Future of Disputes”, which identifies rising stars in the strongest UK disputes teams and asks the new generation for its prognosis.

The report identifies Three Crowns as amongst a handful of firms “housing the rising stars of the disputes market” and “excelling in training and retaining future leaders”.

Penny is profiled and quoted on a number of topics. On the use of virtual hearings in the past 12 months, Penny observes that “[f]or the right cases, and with the right technology, [virtual hearings] can work well, in fact so well that you can even forget you are interacting remotely. Covid accelerated a change that may have taken years to come, and I don’t see any reason why virtual hearings shouldn’t be now here to stay. It just gives us another option and the more flexibility arbitration can offer to its users, the better”.

Penny also notes that international arbitration offers “[t]he opportunity to witness first hand the clash of jurisdictions, different legal cultures, and the development of industries that drive the global economy. Dispute resolution gives you a unique insight into some of the major developments of our time”.

The report concludes that “[t]he firm’s future looks equally bright as it continues to attract leading and future talent seeing the benefits that the arbitration-only set-up offers”. Penny comments that “rather than being a small department in a much larger firm, we are the firm” which offers “more flexibility to take on the right mandates and to evolve along with the market”.
